Losing Pounds?

The question mark is because I question whether I can do it. I joined Pound for Pound on The Biggest Loser. I know I should start with a more positive attitude, but I have been on this fight for a very long time. There are those who began the fight in childhood,I did not. I was a thin child. I was too thin and each meal a struggle to eat,to put on weight. Weight gain was not a problem until the birth of my last child, thirty -nine years ago. I joined TOPS[ Take Off Pounds Sensibly]. My weight has gone up and down. I reached my goal and then I went lower and lower. I went to the doctor and found out I had severe Osteoporosis. She said that I must put on weight, and do not fall. I put on the weight, up to my goal and then I sailed on and on. I put on ten pounds sense I have moved, and that has only been two years.
My daughter also has a weight problem and we have been watching The Biggest Loser, and I might say eating a ice cream sandwich while we watch. I don't think we could get on the show because I only have to lose twenty-six pounds. That does not seem like a lot, but it is getting more and more not less and less. I am having more and more trouble doing activity. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol controlled by medicine.
What I started to say is that my daughter and I have begun to try to become more healthy. We went shopping together for a weeks worth of food for suggested diet meals. We do not cook but open packages and microwave. We met the challenge and bought real food[ not canned or packaged]. I am sure if any one was watching we appeared to be real dummies, which we were. We made our first meal. I am not sure we did it correctly but it was very good. Our next problem is portion control. We made a chili with lean ground beef, elbow macaroni, tomatoes, tomato soup, onions, peppers, beans and chili powder. We picked that because it seemed less complicated. I had a bowl and it seemed like too much food.
Now I have to get on my tread mill and do some walking.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Real food is much healthier and sustaining than all the chemicals and fillers put in processed foods. Getting reid of the packaged foods should also lower your sodium intake and perhaps your blood pressure!

However, the thing that makes losing weight most difficult is the simple fact that portion control and exercise is necessary.

Do you guys like fish? Fish is sO high in protein and so LOW in fat - when I'm being healthy - which I NEED to do again too... we usually eat fish at least 2 nights a week - more likely 3. I'm sO tempted to jump in and join you and Penny on this... maybe we could all support each other. (she says as her bike sits staring at her from the other room...) I don't watch tv so no sense me joining something there... Now, is Dr. J eating what y'all are eating? I thought he doesn't do tomatoes...
I love salad too - but I don't like to MAKE it! I'm not big on cooking these days myself - but when I do cook, I do like fresh vegetables as opposed to canned. If I can't get fresh I buy frozen.
Have you ever visited AllRecipes.com? Go to the Healthy Cooking tab... they have some good ideas. I do have some good recipes - but I would need to know what kinds of things you like to eat. I make some yummy quiches using the fake eggs. I don't use a lot of beef though... we use mostly chicken, fish or turkey. (not much turkey either honestly...) But let me know if I can help with anything!

Thanks for the encouragement. Dr John is not doing it. My daughter does not like fish but I do. I can eat fish for noon when Pennie is working. We didn't buy any for this week but next week I could pick some up.

Don't try to lose 26 pounds. Just lose 5 pounds. Plateau for a week. Then lose 5 pounds again in the next 4 to 5 weeks. Then lose 5 pounds again, & again, & again. Take it in small steps and you can do it. And don't bring anything into the house you shouldn't eat. If it's not there, it won't tempt you. (Remember the ice cream???) Good luck to both of you. Keep up the walking!

I, too, was a thin child and stayed that way for years. It has only been in the last few years that I've on weight. I'd like to lose some too. One pound at a time.
