Tornado Maybe

Today was an unusual day for me. I felt sad. That is not the correct feeling but I can't name it. The news told us we were to have storms and Sunday and Monday snow. Dr John told me that he didn't think he could take three days away for health reasons. I had asked about going to my high school class reunion of 50 years. He had said yes and I sent in my money and made motel reservations for three days. I was very surprised when he had said yes in the first place. I got a note back . The reunion is on the 5th the note talked about a get together on the 4th and seeing the fireworks. I read this and he was surprised about the three days because he thought we were going up and staying only on the 5th. The 4th is his day. He likes doing fireworks and being away would not do. I want to go for the 4th because Escanaba has the best place to watch the fireworks. You can see those on the ground and those in the air. Also understand I have not kept in touch with anyone in my class. I do not like large gatherings of people I don't know. It really doesn't make any since to go. I wanted to go to see fireworks and to have a reason to buy a new dress and get my hair done. Johns health is most important and I just shouldn't go but I have to undo everything I set up.

I sat around in a funky mood. The news had breaking news and storms were on there way north. Tornadoes were seen and were down. Thunder and lightening came then the hail , wind and rain. The house was being pounded, Maggie and I went into the hallway because we have an open concept, Living room ,kitchen and dining room all together and windows all around. Just as Pennie came home The sirens came on and we were told to go to safe place. We dragged Dr. John and Maggie down to the basement with us. Shortly we were told the warning was done the storm had become weak and was breaking up. We learned that we need to be better prepared. So we will make up a kit of things in the basement.

Cereal Prizes

DrJohn mentioned about the prize in the cereal box. My mother made good use of these and the box tops that had to be sent in. She was a person who planned ahead and she would collect prizes and clip the box tops through the year and for the birthday parties. She would use these for prizes for the games. Mr Peanut had a number of these prizes. Now we can visit Dollar Stores or Party Stories and get prizes.

My mother gave wonderful parties. We didn't have clowns or ponies to ride but we had fun with the old favorites. These were Pin the Tail on the Donkey, and Clothes Pins in a Bottle. She made the best sloppy joes to serve. I don't remember anyone who didn't like the sloppy Joes but maybe she was just lucky. At my children's parties I had to serve hot dogs beside sloppy joes. There was of course cake and ice cream. The party was almost always held in the house because my birthday was the last of March and it still was cool. My sister had a May birthday and hers could be held outside. Now some people have their parties away from the home making cleanup easier.

Happy Birthday Caleb

It was my grandsons birthday on the 16 th so we celebrated this weekend. The whole family came here. We went out to eat at the Tumbleweed. Pictures are on Dr John's blog under family video. We were also celebrating my daughters birthday which was on the 15th. My son Pat got her a Webkin[not sure of spelling]. All of my grandkids have one. Each stuffed animal has a code so they can go on the internet. All of the computers except the one in Dr John's bedroom were in use. They would go into the game room and play against each other. They are talking about getting me a Webkinz today even if it is not my birthday. Another hit gift was Verticon. There are balls that rise on air. Best description is an hair dryer with out heat . The gift was for Caleb but Luke played with it the most. In fact just before Caleb opened the gift, Luke was telling my daughter what he wanted for his birthday, when he saw Verticon he changed his mind and said I want that for my birthday. Today we plan on using another gift, a jig saw for children.

Happy Birthday

I want to say Happy Birthday to my daughter a day late.
Happy Birthday to my grandson today. May you have a great day.

Now that our weather has warmed up I want to remember something I enjoyed doing some years ago before the doctor said" Cross Country Skiing are you crazy you may break a bone. No you can't go. Find another exercise like walking." Those people who like to do that exercise are not happy with the snow leaving.
I enjoyed the ability to be out doors and being able to see the beautiful scenery. I can't walk in the winter I may fall and break a bone, but I could ski, before the doc said no. We would find a different trail each weekend and the family and dog would go. I remember one time we missed read the trail signs and got lost. We sang "This is The Day the Lord Has Made" over and over again as we tried to get back on the right trail. We were on a snowmobile trail and we had to do some bending to get under tree branches. We eventually got back to the correct trail. I had a fear of heights and skiing helped me face my fear. There was at the beginning of one trail a quite large hill to go up. This provided a place to get warm because it required work to get up that hill and your frozen feet and hands would thaw out. On this trail which was close to our home there was a hill which had a turn at the bottom and a pine tree just beyond the trail turn so if you missed the turn you ran into the tree. When we first began the tree was tiny and you could ski over it but the tree grew so it was a good thing that your ability grew too so you could get around the turn. Cross Country skiing is a great sport for the family. I feeling your sorry all you skiiers for the loss of snow but now I am looking forward to planting a garden.

Is There a Positive Somewhere?

I have been listening to the news and I want to stay feeling positive but there has been a lot of bad news out there. News that gives me concern. Children beating another child, a student attacking her teacher, a group of nine planning to attack their teacher. I don't know if it because of TV or the video games that are violent or not ,or has this been as bad before but not reported. I know there were gangs when I was in school but they were in the inner city. There was also a report that more students are dropping out of high school.

Dr John reported my daughters accident of the car. Pennie was in the house of a client and her car was hit by a man pulling out of his driveway. She was parked on the other side of the road. He said it was a narrow road. Pennie questioned that statement. The road is wider than the road in front of our home. The man should not have had trouble if he was careful. the police agreed. She can drive the car safely but can't open the backdoor. She feels bad because things were beginning to look like there was light at the end of the tunnel of debt. The odd thing is that earlier another worker was at the house and her car was also hit by another neighbor. This is a neighborhood of bad drivers. Earlier in the day she was being followed by a red car. She pulled over to park and that car also pulled over. She went back out and made some turns and the red car stayed with her. She then went towards the police station and the car left her.
