Happy Mother's Day!

No I am not repeating myself. On Mother's Day my niece had a baby boy. She is now living in Spain. I am told everyone is fine. I am waiting for pictures. My sister will be able to visit her daughter, but I won't be able to so pictures are important. A great day!

Happy Mother's Day!

I had a unusual Mother's Day. My daughter and I served coffee after church. We bought everything from the store because we both had bad colds during the week and my daughter cut our lawns on Saturday with a mower that didn't want to mow. Dr John was not well and stayed home from church. We tried to take pictures but we were not able to get into the sanctuary until after the sermon missing the choir. After the service we went home picking up food from Taco Bell. My oldest son call and said he and the children were coming down. His wife went out with her mother. Pete watched the baseball game and the kids played games with my daughter. Pete and family went home and my daughter and I got take out from Kentucky Fried Chicken. I got some nice gifts from my daughter and son and family.

Maggie Quest To Play Soccer

Today began very interesting. I wanted to put grass seed on the bare spot in the back yard where we put dirt to make the area flat for the pool last year. Dirt and water had soon become mud. I had bought fertilizer and grass seed and they were in the garage. Maggie was with her mother[Maggie is a dog] my daughter, who had taken the week off to clean her house. So I wasn't thinking about Maggie. My daughter let her out and she was on my daughters step. We live next door and there is a fence and a open gate between yards. I hauled the fertilizer into the house leaving the door to the garage open planning to come back to get the seed. I didn't close the gate in the house that kept Maggie from the kitchen. I opened the back sliding door and put down the bag of fertilizer on the porch. Maggie saw me and before I could get the door closed, she was in the house. She ran into the kitchen and out the garage door grabbing my new garden gloves which were laying on the spreader. She then ran into the back yard and out into the farmers field. I went back into the house getting some beef jerky and a leash. I called her she looked up seemed to be thinking about coming but she saw the girls who were playing a soccer game on the soccer field. The soccer field is at the end of the farmers field. Beyond the soccer field is a christian school, and church. She ran full speed over to the girls interrupting the game. I ran as fast as I could on my 68 year old legs. When I got there the girls had her on her back and were petting her. I put the leash on her, apologizing to the team. I walk her using a Gentle Leader. I didn't take that but just the leash so I was dragged back at a running pace. She wanted to chase the birds and butterflies. I got her to my house and put her in her crate so I could finish the job of seeding the dirt spot. I finished ending the morning.

The afternoon I spent helping my daughter clean her house. We were, my daughter and I , invited out to supper at the Olive Garden. We had a good meal.

First Sunday in May

The children at St Marks had their last day of Sunday School. They did a skit and sang.
They did a great job. After church we went to Green Bay for my youngest grandsons birthday party. He had his party with friends the day before, Sunday was for family. My daughter-in-law's brother and family came with a new puppy. Very cute. It was nice to have all my family together and my daughter-in-laws family there too. We are not a large family.

Tornado Maybe

Today was an unusual day for me. I felt sad. That is not the correct feeling but I can't name it. The news told us we were to have storms and Sunday and Monday snow. Dr John told me that he didn't think he could take three days away for health reasons. I had asked about going to my high school class reunion of 50 years. He had said yes and I sent in my money and made motel reservations for three days. I was very surprised when he had said yes in the first place. I got a note back . The reunion is on the 5th the note talked about a get together on the 4th and seeing the fireworks. I read this and he was surprised about the three days because he thought we were going up and staying only on the 5th. The 4th is his day. He likes doing fireworks and being away would not do. I want to go for the 4th because Escanaba has the best place to watch the fireworks. You can see those on the ground and those in the air. Also understand I have not kept in touch with anyone in my class. I do not like large gatherings of people I don't know. It really doesn't make any since to go. I wanted to go to see fireworks and to have a reason to buy a new dress and get my hair done. Johns health is most important and I just shouldn't go but I have to undo everything I set up.

I sat around in a funky mood. The news had breaking news and storms were on there way north. Tornadoes were seen and were down. Thunder and lightening came then the hail , wind and rain. The house was being pounded, Maggie and I went into the hallway because we have an open concept, Living room ,kitchen and dining room all together and windows all around. Just as Pennie came home The sirens came on and we were told to go to safe place. We dragged Dr. John and Maggie down to the basement with us. Shortly we were told the warning was done the storm had become weak and was breaking up. We learned that we need to be better prepared. So we will make up a kit of things in the basement.

Cereal Prizes

DrJohn mentioned about the prize in the cereal box. My mother made good use of these and the box tops that had to be sent in. She was a person who planned ahead and she would collect prizes and clip the box tops through the year and for the birthday parties. She would use these for prizes for the games. Mr Peanut had a number of these prizes. Now we can visit Dollar Stores or Party Stories and get prizes.

My mother gave wonderful parties. We didn't have clowns or ponies to ride but we had fun with the old favorites. These were Pin the Tail on the Donkey, and Clothes Pins in a Bottle. She made the best sloppy joes to serve. I don't remember anyone who didn't like the sloppy Joes but maybe she was just lucky. At my children's parties I had to serve hot dogs beside sloppy joes. There was of course cake and ice cream. The party was almost always held in the house because my birthday was the last of March and it still was cool. My sister had a May birthday and hers could be held outside. Now some people have their parties away from the home making cleanup easier.

Happy Birthday Caleb

It was my grandsons birthday on the 16 th so we celebrated this weekend. The whole family came here. We went out to eat at the Tumbleweed. Pictures are on Dr John's blog under family video. We were also celebrating my daughters birthday which was on the 15th. My son Pat got her a Webkin[not sure of spelling]. All of my grandkids have one. Each stuffed animal has a code so they can go on the internet. All of the computers except the one in Dr John's bedroom were in use. They would go into the game room and play against each other. They are talking about getting me a Webkinz today even if it is not my birthday. Another hit gift was Verticon. There are balls that rise on air. Best description is an hair dryer with out heat . The gift was for Caleb but Luke played with it the most. In fact just before Caleb opened the gift, Luke was telling my daughter what he wanted for his birthday, when he saw Verticon he changed his mind and said I want that for my birthday. Today we plan on using another gift, a jig saw for children.
